500 Miles

("if you missle the plane I'm on")

I wrote this lyric to the tune of the Peter, Paul, and Mary song "500 Miles" during my freshman year in 1963, a time when the Cold War might turn hot at any moment and global nuclear annihilation was a non-rremote possibility.
Today, more than a half century later, there is again a nuclear threat, though probably only a few missles aimed at the USA and one would hope only a few likely to be sent from the USA in retaliation or in pre-emption.
I think this is the first time I ever wrote a song lyric. (Not quite the first ever attempt at verse, but my high school notebooks have perished.) It's not very good, but the guitar chords are easy to play.

two ways to play the MIDI file (not sure which will work on your machine)

500 Miles

("if you missle the plane I'm on")

by Pam Green , © 1963, 2017

to tune of "500 Miles"

If you missle the plane I'm on, you will know that I am gone,
You can see the mushroom cloud a hundred miles,
Two hundred miles, three hundred miles, four hundred miles, five hundred miles,
You can see the mushroom cloud five hundred miles.

Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two, Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four,
Lord I'm five hundred kilo-Roengens hot.
Lord Im hot, Lord I'm hot, Lord I'm hot, Lord I'm hot,
Lord I'm five hundred kilo-Roengens hot.

Not a shirt on my back, not a molecule intact ,
Lord I can't go home this-a-way,
This-a-way, this-a-way, this-a-way, this-a-way,
Lord I can't go home this-a-way.

If you missle the plane I'm on, you will know where I have gone :
You can smell the S O 2 a hundred miles,
Two hundred miles, three hundred miles, four hundred miles, five hundred miles,
You can smell the S O 2 five hundred miles,
