My First Bouvie

I had been gazing at my elderly Bouvier , Velvet, sadly contemplating that she might well be my last Bouvier. Thinking that perhaps her eulogy verse would be based on Robert Browning's "My Last Dutchess". But that's a verse about a powerful man having his wife murdered merely because she experiences pleasure at people ang things other than himself. Horrible !

So instead, here's a verse about "My First Bouvie", my darling puppy Keya (Chiaroscuro).

My First Bouvie

my precious puppy , Keya (Chiaroscuro)

by Pam Green , © 2020

There's my first Bouvie, in pixels on my screen,
Looking as though she were alive.
From greyscale photograph, a scan
To colorize in Photoshop, my hand
With Wacom tablet and with all my wits
Worked carefully for hours, and there she sits
Beside me, and ahead my good old horse,
My stallion , Sunrise, harnessed for a drive.

Chiaroscuro, in dark and lightness clad.
She had a heart most easily made glad.
A walk, a car ride, or a belly rub,
My words of praise, a tasty treat
Were joy to her, who made my life complete.

Now look above my desk where you may see
A dancing stallion, rearing gracefully,
Enzo Plazzotta cast in bronze for me.

Impressionistic Photoshop painting made from photo of Keya and me enjoying a horse cart ride, courtesy of Sunny.

Enzo Plazzotta (1921-1981) was a wonderful sculptor of horses and ballet dancers. (Had he lived longer, perhaps he would have added figure skaters to his favorite subjects.) He did indeed sculpt and cast in bronze a rearing stallion who appears to be dancing gracefully.
