Chris was rescued 12/29/94 from Stanislaus County Animal Control, age aprox 6 months. He was very ill and had been scheduled to be killed the day before, but somehow he was over-looked. A shelter worker phoned me when she discovered him alive the next morning, begging me to save him. She thought he was a 4 month old Giant Schnauzer, but his teeth said he was about 6 months. He gazed up at me hopefully, and I was lost.
He was originally named "Xmass" because he was the 24th dog I had rescued and I was working my way through the alphabet. It was just after Christmas that I rescued him. This "X" becomes "Xmass" and "Chris". As he became Bones' adopted son, thus as the son of "Xterminator" he needed an official X name and thus "Xcaliber", for both the magic sword and the unmagic bullet.
Chris was also the first mixed breed dog other than a Border Collie mix to earn the AHBA's HTCh = Herding Trial Champion. (I don't have a note of the date.) Bones had been the very first dog of any breed to earn the HTCh.
