Len Gaska was the originator of the Bouvier e-mail list, which he sponsored and ran until his death some years later. He adored Bouviers and was active in their rescue. This satiric article is taken from his own web site. I'm pretty sure it was sparked by some controversies over rescuing dogs who were not really Bouvs (what I call "Bouv Pretenders") , Bouv mixes, and so on. Len didn't have much patiences for excuses for not rescuing a dog.
It was Len and his list who saved Duke's life from Death Row.
He was a great supporter of dogs generally, and Bouviers especially. He was a very good person and he died much too young. I reprint this in his honor and his memory.
The Official Veeblefetzer Web Siteby Len Gaska, © 1977What, might you ask, is a Veeblefetzer? The official Veeblefetzer standard, from the LKC (Len's Kennel Club) is as follows. General Description - A large lovable dog that resembles the Bouvier Des Flandres. NEWSFLASH! The LKC has formally expanded the general description to include "all lovable dogs, particularly those who have been 'rehomed' or rescued." Weight - doesn't matter as long as it is a good dog and healthy. Height - doesn't matter as long as it is a good dog. Coat texture - doesn't matter as long as it is a good dog. Coat color - doesn't matter as long as it is a good dog. The one exception is that the coat color must be in the visible spectrum. Invisible Veeblefetzers are not currenly recognized. Temperment - must a good dog. Disqualifying characteristics - none as long as it is a good dog. Titles earned by my Veeblefetzers:
