A humorous song about the various embarrassing mistakes that can happen to dog and handler when competing in Working Trials. This was written after Chelsea and I had been competing in Working Trials of various kinds for several years. Some of the incidents , or something all too similar, actually happened to me at one time or another, though not nescessarily with Chelsea. By the way our Working kennel name is "Pied de Boue" which means "feet of clay" (metaphor for imperfection) as well as more litterally meaning "dirty feet: or "muddy feet."

THE DIRTY BOUVIER II(AT THE WORKING TRIALS)(to tune of "Battle Hymn of the Republic")by Pam Green , © 1986, 1993I have a Working Bouvier of whom I am quite proud: I've often sung her praises and perhaps I sang too loud; They said "Bring her to the Working Trials and prove it to the crowd That she's a Working Bouv !" Groovy, groovy, she's my Bouvie and we have a chance to provie That she is a Working Bouvie, a Working Bouvier ! So I sought to prove her merits as a Working Bouvier; I thought there were no working games at which we could not play; But in every competition we revealed our feet of clay ! We'll try again next year ! Groovy, groovy she's my Bouvie, and I swear that she'll improvie:! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie, when we return next year ! In the Tracking competition , she would not admit defeat: She kept sniffing out the soles of men and following their feet With complete determination , seeking little chunck of meat, Ignoring all the gloves ! Groovy, groovy she's my Bouvie; I swear her retrievals will improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie when we return next year ! In the I.S.D.S. Herding Trial she didna' win a prize, For the Judge percieved that she was na' a Collie in disguise; But the sheep believed her instinct, and her "power", and her size: They bolted straight away ! Groovy, groovy, she's my Bouvie; I swear her outruns will improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie when we return next year ! By the Schutzhund agitator, she was called a dirty name, For 'twas a Ringsport decoy taught her how to play the game ; So she aimed to get a body bite and bit to crush and maim : He sings soprano now ! Groovy, groovy, she's my Bouvie; beware, her bitework might improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie when we return next year ! In the A..K.C. Obedience, she was not High in Trial, For her heeling lagged a little less than half a country mile; But she did it with a wagging tail and shaggy Bouvie smile, To score one sixty eight ! Groovy, groovy, she's my Bouvie; I swear her heeling will improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie when we return next year ! With true smuggler-dog Agility, she did the tunnel crawl; With a little bit of boost from me, she scaled the 6 foot wall; But halfway 'cross the catwalk, she began to fear she'd fall, And leaped into my arms ! Groovy, groovy, she's my Bouvie ; her pussyfooting will improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie when we return next year ! She excited admiration as we drove off in our Cart, For her steering was precision and she proved she's traffic-smart; Then we passed by a gas station so she passed a ghastly fart Straight in the Judge's face ! Groovy, groovy, she's my Bouvie; on chlorophyll she will improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie when we return next year ! We enjoyed ourselves most thoroughly and we'll be back next year: With another 12 months' training we might be the team to fear; But if another's better, we will be the first to cheer, "A Working Bouvier !" Groovy, groovy , she's my Bouvie; and I swear we'll both improvie ! She'll prove that she's a Working Bouvie, A Working Bouvier ! |
