Someone on the Bouvier e-mail list asked which smaller breed of dog one might switch to when the inevitable debility of human aging made it difficult to live with a Bouvier. I responded that I would simply take care to adopt older and more sedate natured Bouvier from Bouvier Rescue. Then I wrote this song.
(note : at about the time of my 64th year, Fox The Wicked Queensland came into my life. She's about half the size and weight of a medium sized Bouvier, but she's more of a handful than almost any Bouv. Size isn't everything.)

WHEN I'M EIGHTY-FOUR

(to tune of "When I'm Sixty-Four" , Lennon & McCartney)

by Pam Green , © 2002

As I got older, grey in my hair,
Many years ago,
Here I am, still living in my country house,
Woodstove heat and many a mouse.

As I get older , losing my bones,
Not so long from now,
I WILL still be living with my Bouviers,
O Bitch Goddess , hear as I pray !

As I get older , losing my strength,
Not so long from now,
I will still be living with my Bouviers,
They're well trained , obeying for praise.

They'll be older too.

Maybe I can't lift near seven stone,
They weigh that much or more,
But yes, I'll still need them,
Yes, I'll still feed them ,
When I'm eighty-four.

Even if I have to move and live in town,
Which I know I'd hate,
If my precious Bouvs are living with me
Somehow I'll accept my fate.

Maybe we won't go walking each day,
Just use the doggie door,
Yes, I'll still need them,
Yes , I'l still feed them,
When I'm eighty four.
