Sadie was rescued from the Stockton Animal Control in early April, 2005.
Sadie's first foster home writes :
Let me tell you about Sadie : she is a small female, great conformation with docked tail and natural ears. She came to me un-groomed, un-socialized a bit apprehensive about people. She is now probably a year to 16 months old and very nice, sweet and loves people and other dogs. Being young, she is very busy sometimes and does like to chew and has done some digging (not looking to escape). She is crate trained and uses the dog door.
She is young and her only problem is that she chews, mostly out of boredom and always needs available chew toys, especially bones (knuckle bones!) and hooves are her favorites, she also loves squeaky and rope toys. She has very mild separation anxiety (which has lessened as she settled in) that can be result in chewing things other than her chew items. I mitigate that with a Kong filled with peanut butter and give it to only if I have to leave her uncrated in the kitchen alone. If left alone in a yard she will also look for things to play with, so should have acceptable chews available.
It is my firm belief that with lots of walks and exercise Sadie will out grow this behavior.
IMO she should not be placed in a "sedentary" home, rather one with active people. She needs lots of exercise and should go to a home that will provide that for her. She would make an excellent agility and/or obedience candidate!
I love this dog! She is kind of a Velcro dog; she loves to be right next to me, and will lay quietly behind my chair or next to me on the couch and cuddle. She has responds very well to training. She is house broken, knows "sit", "down", "load-up" (crate) and "outside" (dog door). She is VERY eager and wants to do the right thing. She is well behaved on the leash (better with the pinch collar) and walks well with other dogs.
Sadie is going to be fostered by Carol McElleney in Elk Grove, as my schedule is now taking me out of town several weekends a month. Her email address is <rngrs16n21@comcast.net>
And her new foster home reports, after just a few days :
We agreed to foster Sadie, a year old girl who was originally picked up by the Stockton CA Animal Control. Her first foster mom did a great job of teaching her the basics, but since she travels weekends, she needed another place for Sadie.
Sadie reminds me so much of Pepper. She has similar conformation down to the black spots on her tongue. She is less "needy" but really wants a person of her own to bond with.
She would be wonderful in obedience or agility; very very receptive to training and very good on her feet. She gets along great with my Bouvier boys (Kepler thinks we got her just for him but she told him different).
I think she is do-able with cats, but I can't take any chances with my old 16 year old cat. I plan to do some on-leash schooling later. I have not shown her sheep yet, but will take her next time I have a lesson with Kepler. She will make someone a great pet and sports companion!
Last night I shut the bedroom door with Tycho and the kitty inside, and Kepler and Sadie in the rest of the house. About 3:30 am I heard some whining, and Sadie wanted in to mess with the kitty. I went to sleep on the den couch with all three dogs. I woke up to see much sunlight coming in, obviously much later than the 6:00 am Kepler usually wakes me up at. I saw the boys across the room, and reached down to feel Sadie next to the couch keeping Kepler from his usual wakeup routine of gnawing my hand. Good girl! As soon as she saw I was awake, she jumped up to the back of the couch, then down onto my chest, with her face inches from mine. I was a little nervous to have a strange Bouvier on my face, so I got up, but she didn't mean anything by it.
She spent today following Tim around while I was at work, and was a good girl when he left all three alone for a few hours.
Potential adopters should contact BCNC Rescue Chairperson, (removed)
UPDATE : Sadie has been ADOPTED. She was adopted in June and is getting along well in her new home. She is very much missed by her foster home, though it is also a bit more peaceful there without this bundle of energy.
