Those of you who have read "Le Petit Prince" (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-ExupÈry (known to his friends as "St. Ex") should remember that the Prince asked St. Ex to draw him a sheep that he could take home to his asteroid to do weed control for him, eating seedling baobab trees. St. Ex had some trouble coming up with a drawing to satisfy the Prince, so finally drew a crate and said "the sheep you want is inside." Thus we do not know if the sheep might have been a pregnant ewe. If she were to have given birth to twin ewe lambs, then the Prince soon has a flock and needs a herding dog. (If she were to have given birth to a male lamb, what a disaster : the tiny asteroid would soon be over-run with sheep !)

A herding dog in need of a job became available when my precious Bones (Xterminator van de Vuilvoet, who surely deserved to be known as "St. X") died and sought a celestial home.
Here Bonesy is fetching the flock to the Little Shepherd-Prince.

I painted this on a tee shirt to wear to the a herding trial in the French manner judged by a highly respected French herding trainer. The version appearing on this site has been modified from the original painting so as to appear a bit more surreal.
