This is a photo of a newborn Bouvier puppy, almost immediately after birth. Notice that this pup could be of almost any larger sized black colored breed, eg could as easily be a Labrador as a Bouvier. Like all newborn puppies, this one is extremely helpless at birth. Eyes are closed, ears are closed. Only the sense of smell and touch are really "on line." The pup is primed to imprint on the scent and feel of its mother's nipples.
This adorable baby is one of a litter of 7 born to my friend Carrie's bitch Dixie (Ch Dixie the Grey Ghost, UDT), who was cousin to my beloved Chelsea. Bringing puppies into the world is a huge responsibility. Carrie wound up keeping all 7 pups, because she wanted to be sure they all had responsible and loving lifelong homes.
