Hunter

a sweet senior Bouvier

Rescued in Idaho : Hunter, a very sweet senior neutered male Bouvier rescued by long time Bouvier lover Jay Campion. Her story follows :

I've been asked to post a little info about Hunter, my 10 year old Bouv that has been dropped off at my door. Several months ago I was contacted by Hunters owner for grooming. During the groom he asked me if I did boarding and I said yes, Bouvs only. He mentioned at that time that he had a new job in Portland and could not take the dog because they could not find a house where they could have a big dog. Hummmm RED FLAGS!!! I babysat Hunter several times for three or four days at a time while they went to Portland house hunting. He called on the 4th of December and asked if I could babysit Hunter for a few days. I haven't heard a thing from him since and his cell phone is no longer in service. All of you that fly out of the Portland airport beware!!!! Your pilot may be a Bouv Dumper!!

Hunter is a very sweet, well mannered, black Bouv. He is cropped and docked. Has lots of energy for a senior and likes to do burnouts in the front yard. I wish mine were as well mannered as this dog is. He's a true love. He was quite overweight when he came but has been on a diet and looks much better. He is housebroken but spent most of his time with his owner outside or in the garage. He likes children and gets along with other dogs. He will bark at other dogs as they go past his crate but I have not seen any sign of aggression. I don't think I can place him yet, I must ask some legal questions first. If you're looking for a sweetie he might be your man. Jay Campion

  and later :

I finally got a call from Hunter's long lost owner. I sent him a certified letter demanding payment on a long overdue board bill and he has given permission in writing for me to place this dog. I can not tell you how neat this guy is. He's very sweet and has some serious energy for a senior citizen. He gets along well with other dogs as long as they will play with him. He likes everyone but has a protective nature. In other words he will bark when you pull in the drive and meet you at the gate with nubby wagging. I feel confident that this dog has several years to give to someone. He does have a little stiffness in the hind legs but that has all but disappeared since he lost 20lbs. Cats??? I don't know but he just watches the squirrels play in the yard. He likes to play ball and loves to go for long walks. He's very gentle on the leash. He does know some obedience and the most remarkable thing is he comes everytime he is called. I have never owned a Bouv that would do that. Please don't let his age scare you. I could tell someone this dog was 5/6 and they would believe it. If you have room in your heart and home for another set of dark brown eyes, let me know. Hunter is waiting for the right home. Hunter is very black, cropped and docked. Jay Campion, vbouvier@cableone.net

Jay sent me some photos which I was preparing to post on this page, but the good news below intervened. He is a gorgeous dog, so I will post one anyway.

UPDATE (3/20/06) : Hunter has been ADOPTED ! . Jay writes : Hunter has a home and will be leaving this Saturday. I am soooo excited. The girl that is taking him has another rescue from me that she adopted two years ago. Hurrah!!! Jay Campion

UPDATE (3/25/06) from Jay : Today was to have been a special day for my 10 year old rescue Hunter. He was going to his new forever home. Yesterday morning he was not feeling well and we rushed him to the vet at 7:00am. Xrays showed that he was loaded with cancer. This dog has not had a sick day in the four months he has been here. He has had two vets checks and blood work in the last four months. I wanted to make sure he was ready for his new home. This just shows you that if they don't want you to know they are sick you won't know until it's to late. We sent Hunter to his new forever home, the Rainbow Bridge. In one room of the vet hospital my husband was with Hunter saying good bye. In the next room I was with Keogh bringing new life into the world. What a day. Jay Campion
