It's been a year since my good old Grover died (3/17/2014). At the time the only epitaph I had for him was "Golden dogs and bitches must, as homeless mongrels, come to dust." (Grover was a "fawn" or "buff" color, thus somewhat golden).

The inspiration source is from Shakespeare's Cymbaline, beginning "fear no more the heat of the sun".. Grover was pretty much fearless, but all dogs dislike heat, Bouviers especially so..

Golden Dogs and Bitches

Grover's Elegy

by Pam Green , © 2015

Fear no more the heat of the sun,
The long walk's pleasure thus undone.
Suffer not arthritis' pain,
Worse in winter cold and rain.
Grieve not the loss of playtime's joy,
Of tug of war with ropen toy.
Golden dogs and bitches must,
As homeless mongrels, come to dust.
