Photograph of Chelsea herding sheep through a chute.
This photo shows how well a highly herding instincted dog can manage sheep after only a few lessons. Chelsea had worked sheep less than half a dozen times when this photo was taken. She is working in the basic "fetch" mode, ie keeping the sheep trapped between herself and me. I'm glancing back to see if she is too close to the sheep : she is very close but these are "school sheep" who accept much closer work than normal sheep would. the long bamboo cane is used to influence the dog to keep more distance. Chelsea's intensity is very clear in her body. It's one of my very favorite herding photos.
