This is a very dramatic photo of my Bouvier bitch, Chelsea, performing in the protection phase of the very first French Ring Trial ever held in the USA. Prior to the start of the seminar, three days earlier, she had never bitten on a ring suit, and it feels rather different from the protection sleeves she was used to. Also until 3 days before, she had not been exposed to the clattering of the split bamboo stick or the multiple "barrage" of stick motion intended to intimidate the dog before the bite or the rain of light blows during the bite. Many good dogs are initially very blown away by the French style of agitation and stickwork. I'm very proud of her efforts. And I love this photo which is one of the best bite photos I have seen ! (The photo was sent to me by Dr Erik Houttuin, who I assume is the photographer. I have very slightly re-touched it to emphasize the highlights and so make more contrast between the dark dog and the dark suit of the decoy.)
