Bones as a young dog herding ducks through a quarter inch of snow.
When Bones was a young dog, a friend kindly gave me half a dozen Khaki ducks to use for herding stock. I kept them in a modest sized pen and used a small dog crate to carry them out into the middle of a hundred acre field to practice herding. Bones learned a pretty good outrun , lift , and fetch on these ducks, plus a bit of driving. In this photo he is fetching them to me. During my over 20 years of living on a farm on the outskirts of Davis, California, it has only snowed twice and this was one of the two. About a quarter inch of snow and it only lasted an hour or so, but it sure made a dramatic picture.
