Poems and Thoughts    by Frank Maurer

Declining Vocabulary.

There has been a 'substantial loss' in our daily spoken communication.
Spoken words fell from an average of 16,000 per day in 2005,
To fewer than 12,000 by 2019.
With each passing year, people use approximately 330 fewer words daily.
It is speculated that modern information technology
And digital communication is supplanting vocal conversation.
When I text, I do not abbreviate (UR = your), check my spelling,
And try to text with some style and imagination.
For some reason, many recipients have complimented my communication.
Additionally, some people call me less often because I perhaps 'talk too much.'
My vociferousness is being attacked by the texting phenomenon,
With its shortcuts and paucity of vocabulary.
Just an octogenarian blowing off some verbal steam!
