Poems and Thoughts by Frank Maurer
|
'We-Other'.Old, later English used to commonly useThe first person plural in an awkward, 'We-Other' or variations thereof It included 'me' or 'I' and 'all the rest' or 'the others'. English has pruned that away to just using 'we'. But--there is a language which still utilizes the old form! Guess which one? The very much used Spanish! 'We' in Spanish is 'Nosotros'. Ok,dissect it; 'Nos' = 'We' and 'Otros' = other. Wow, just always under our noses! When I broach this complete history with Spanish speakers, They are astonished that they had never contemplated its meaning. |
